EDIT: cleaned some lines, removed upper and lower black framing and worked on some shapes, might re-edit it, thanks for your critiques!
Hey, guys, this is my anticipated homage to sept. 19th "Talk Like A Pirate Day" haha Damn I love pirates!
I tried some different techniques here, hope you like it
so!
Arrr, brin' me that nasty Concept, ye filthy dogs!
"These are The Pirates Who Say Arrgh, they are bounty hunters who always fail miserably. The crew is composed by Captain Henry "Fish Moustache" K'nuckles, Adipous "Fat" Willy Balls and Sir. Rat Ratton.
This time they found the bounty of their lives! They are hunting down The Lil' Big Ol' Evil One-Eyed Fangy Horny Jones, also known as the "Pirate-and-just-about-anything-else Killer". Will they beat that nasty beast? Will they ever not fail miserably horribly in something? Well, Davy Jones only knows!"
It was inspired by "The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack", Zelda: The Wind Waker, Moby Dick, Monty Python and The Holy Grail, Tom & Jerry, Gorillaz, all that pirate mythology and an old deviation of mine called "The Bitter End"
Hope you guys like it! Favs, comments, critiques are always welcome!
Hello Here is a litte critique, that I hope you will all enjoy!
First of, I wanna say that I really love this piece, it is truly amazing! And then I also want to appoligize if there I made any typos, anyway, here I go:
Vision It looks really great, the contrast between the orange light background and the dark front looks amazing! I love the small clouds, the shading is pretty good, and you have an amazing drawing style. However it could have been done better. I would actually have given this 4 stars, but I wont because of how you scanned the picture. You dont notice right away, but the picture is not close being horizental (I think its called). The picture has big black lines at the top and the bottom and it is really irritating, and I also think its a shame for such a great artwork Also for some reason it gets annoying looking at too for too long
Originality I choosed to give this one 3.5 star, because I feel like there are way to many similar pictures to find around the internet, but on the other hand, even though the whole theme is well known, the way you drawn it is new and interesting. Also whats up with the Mickey Mouse looking creature at the ship?
Technique There is no doubt that you have an amazing drawing style, and great colouring, but I still feel like you could have done a better job on the shading, and line work.
Impact You got it just perfect at this one The shining sun, lovely orange colours and the amazing contrasts just look stunning. When I first saw the picture I was like "woooaw! " Also I get a real "action" feeling when I look at the pirate, and comparing the size of the monster and the ship, so epic!
Overall Even though I feel like I've been saying a lot of negative things about this artwork, I really like it, and I think it's one of your best deviations lately! Nice job, keep it up!
Heya folks! Friendly internet robot Mosobot64 here, and here's yet another review!
This time around, we've got a band of mighty pirates taking on a scary behemoth, made by *Borruen.
The painterly feel to this brings to mind art from recent fantasy works like Secret of Kells and DeathSpank, yet it occupies a unique space all its own. Painting wise, it beautifully toes the line between textured speed-paint and clean vector cartoon-angular and precise, yet amazingly non-artificial in look. And all the elements play off just right, even the thumbnail of this piece presents a distinctive silhouette, and that massive, toothy maw gives you something to remember.
So it isn't a perfectly smooth portrait. So it's not hundreds of characters in a space. So there's not a lot of shiny metal, rainbows, glitz and glam. So what?
I'm tired of repetition. I want more soul like this!
