Guess you already know that I'm a manipulator. Manipulation is not simply putting totally different pictures together, it's about recreating reality. By merging different representations of reality, different moments in time, we, manipulators, are able to create our own worlds from scratch.

But lately, I've been very disappointed with some things I've seen regarding photomanipulation. I won't troll or anything like that, but I feel that the manipulation genre is declining faster and faster. Why? Well, maybe because it is a pretty accessible medium. Almost anyone with basic knowledge and a editing software can manipulate. But hey, that is pretty good isn't it? Sure it is! If it wasn't so accessible, I wouldn't be on DA, I wouldn't have started maniping, "Art" wouldn't be a great part of my hobbies today, and many people would have had great ideas that they couldn't have executed due to not having an accessible medium to do so.  But this same accessibility is what makes the manipulation genre so disappointing  sometimes.  I'm not talking about technical aspects here, these things can be learnt, and with a lot of dedication and effort anyone can be a great manipulator. I'm talking about CREATIVITY.

It's very disappointing to see hundreds, thousands, millions of manipulations that look almost the same. Everyone has ways to express themselves and all that, I'm not the one judging it, but sometimes I feel that some people don't create a manip as form of expression, but rather as an "easy way" to create something. I mean, some people don't really care about producing an original concept or something new and interesting to really express themselves, they seem to simply take an overused to death concept (an easy concept) to create something without much meaning, something just fake and plastic, reducing the enormous potential of the manip genre to a simple, single stereotype.  I'm not pointing fingers, calling names or questioning anyone's skill or talent, but the manip genre is really in need for some originality. Some pieces and artists really stand out as, when done right, maniping can be one of the most creative mediums of all. But check the average manipulation gallery and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Sometimes, doing something original in this genre is not rewarding. I see brilliant ideas and pieces that are simply ignored in favor of the same old clichés that are becoming more and more common nowdays. I decided to create this little feature just as a form of saying "thank you" to all those manipulators who work hard to create something new and aren't recognized enough for doing so. For real, you guys make it worthy!

maybe the internet and digital media is doing something to art and how people relate to it- its a new mainstream phenomena.people openly adapt "art-styles" for their creations instead of doing art out of them selfs.dunno- "i´m an concept artist " or " i´m an manga-artist" and so on. like if the exterior hull would be in first place instead of some kind of more secluded "self reflection".that people see art in such an materialistic way is nothing new of course....but it looks like the whole pop-culture started to become a creature of its own-feeding itself from some kind of mass-mind,producing art out of itself-kind of reducing individuality by giving total individual freedom... (?) forget it :D
oskar wilde says it better : " Art finds her own perfection within, and not outside of herself. She is not to be judged by any external standard of resemblance. She is a veil, rather than a mirror. "
